Strega Waterfront with Petah on a blustery day...

 

On a blustery and super cold day in Boston, Petah and I ventured out to Strega Waterfront.

We had some gift cards to use up there, that we got from ordering gift cards to oya Boston from Boston gift cards...pretty good deal, buy gift cards to a super yummy place like oya Boston and get extra free gift cards to Strega Waterfront :)

**Plus, if you book oya Boston via Opentable, you not only get dining points (which go towards a dining certificate to use at any Opentable restaurant, so the more reservations you make and eat at, the more points and more dining bucks) but also 10% off your total check!!

We had no idea about this until our first meal at oya Boston and got the check and saw the 10% discount and was told this was because we booked via Opentable :)

 

Strega Waterfront is your typical Italian touristy type place with great views of the Waterfront...on this particular day though, we were just hoping to get inside from our car without having a trash can blow over and knock us upside the head =X!!!

 

Mozzarella with Prosciutto--pretty good, nothing amazing on either items but edible :)

Head of the Charles Fall 2011

 

 

It's funny that we've been to the Head of the Charles Regatta Event each of the last two times while in Boston...funny because we've never really paid attention to the regatta events at all!  We just like going to browse all the different vendor stands and yes, I have to admit it--try out all the free samples haha!

 

 

 

Yes, I am in my full-on Trojan Pride outfit, this year, the Head of the Charles Regatta was on October 22nd, 2011--USC @ Notre Dame football Saturday!

After perusing the vendor stands, Petah and I walked over to Mr. Bartley's Burgers in Harvard Square.  If you have not been, I'd highly recommend you go check it out!  They have loads of unique varietys of burger combinations with smartly named titles...the sweet potato fries are also delish!

Okay...so what are the odds, on the USC @ Notre Dame football weekend, I have to sit next to a NOTRE DAME couple while eating my burger in Boston!!!??? LOL...so random right?  Anyhoo, they were totally cool but it was sorta awkward for like 5 seconds when I sat down next to them and they had on their Notre Dame gear and I'm well...you see how I was dressed...haha

HBS Japan Trip: Day 3 Osaka

 

One of the amazing parts of this HBS Japan Trip were the optional day tours.  With a large group of people, there will always be different tastes and interests and by providing a number of optional tours on certain days, it allowed trip participants the opportunity to choose cities/day trips that most appealed to them.

 

On our 3rd day, Peter and I joined the Osaka optional tour with Hideki, who did a super job showing us around and keeping us well-fed haha!!

Sooo, Osaka kinda reminds of a Venice but in Japan...well cos of the waterways here, and like in Venice, well, there were mice!!! OMG, I almost passed out when I saw a few scurry past me on the side streets in Osaka!!!

I mean, I was thinking I would inevitably come across one during this Asia trip, just not in Japan--I figured I'd see them in Hong Kong!!!

And Peter can tell you how I am around any scurrying creatures in the street (of any kind)...I scream and run!!!

Upon arriving back in Kyoto, Peter and I went off on our own to explore the shops and streets on our "free night."

 

After walking even more (at this point we were ready to pass out), we found this cute Japanese BBQ restaurant inside one of the mega department store buildings in Kyoto...boy, was it a GEM!!!!

 

 

Our salad bar choices, I always love Japanese salad dressings and their potato/macaroni salads are always delicious, Peter reckons it has something to do with all the mayo in there...hmm, oh wells...

 

 

 

I can't really recall what we ordered, also because the menu was only in Japanese AND the staff there did not speak ANY english, so Peter and I were pretty much reduced to sign language/charades haha

Moo Moo making a cameo debut hehe with all of our Christmas cards!!  I am still very "old school" I guess...I have a physical planner I need for my life to function and write down daily "to-do" lists on post-it notes, I must have like over 20 types of post-it stickies in various colors, sizes and shape!!!

It's a great way for us to look back on everything we've done together in the year before...

I like to keep some of our favorite pics and tickets from my USC Football games and NFL games...it's very odd, Peter loves football but much prefers to watch from the comfort of home while I jump at any opportunity to go to a football game...something about the camaraderie of going to a game, hanging out with your fellow fans, taking in the air of excitement and cheering your team on--I just LOVE it! 

Despite loving homefield advantage at the L.A. Coliseum, I almost like away/road games even more, since you get to mingle with the "super trooper fans" who actually take the time to fly to a different city just to watch USC Football (I was going to say the "true" fans but I know lots of real fans who would love to go to away games but just can't due to time and financial constraints...)

 

 

Oh and some pics at my desk with my trusty planner (I love the Barnes & Nobles ones, super cheap too--like $9.99 usd or so haha), my "Fashion Notebook" where I jot down things I see at boutiques, online etc and where I make my wishlists and also keep track of pressies I buy for friends and family :)

 

And my Sony Vaio Z Laptop :)  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this laptop, it's SOOOO thin and light (under 3lbs), blazingly fast thanks to the SSD (solid state drive)--how do I know about all this techy stuff?  Spend 4 years of undergrad at Carnegie Mellon AND have a CMU ECE major for a boyfriend...I make sure he looks good and he makes sure I have the most up-to-date mobile phones, laptops and even mouse haha!! 

Anyhow, I'd highly recommend this to anyone who wants a sleek nice looking laptop but is not a fan of Apple computers/gadgets (--->like me)...

Fight On! Are you ready for USC Football??!!

I am :)

 

I posted this back in January before everything started falling apart for USC Football and Sports.

 

Of course I've come to terms with the fact that this season, it's Lane Kiffen and not Pete Carroll, who will be leading the Trojan Football team and family into their opener in Hawaii on September 2nd.

 

Amidst the recent NCAA ruling and allegations against Reggie Bush and the USC Football team of 2004 and 2005, I've come across many SEC and Big 10 fans overjoyed about the sanctions befallen upon SC, and all I have to say is: believe.

 

I will always believe in USC, and never for a moment, have I doubted Pete Carroll's role in all this.  Was I upset to hear about him leaving and seeing him eventually sign with the Seahawks?  Yes, very much so.  But did I think he had anything to do with or even knowledge of the misconduct that the NCAA has accused USC of?  No.

 

Pete Carroll showed us how to Win Forever, and even if Reggie Bush had illegal contact with agents, this contact did not enhance his performance on the field.  I know many SC fans may be upset at me for saying this, but Reggie and the USC Football teams of 2004 and 2005 still won these games fair and square. 

 

No one took performance enhancing drugs, no one paid off referees to help give us an edge during game time.

 

Everything that MAY have even happened with agents happened OFF the field and none of that impacted our "football dynasty" and complete domination in college football and our National Championship and Rose Bowl wins.

 

Well, it looks that a new era has dawned upon USC, with the new President, CL Max Nikias, and new athletic director, Pat Haden, cleaning house. 

 

I'm just super excited about the upcoming season and I know all the true SC fans will still be cheering from their homes, bars, or the stands at the game!!

 

Hope to see some of you at some of the SC games this year!

Dear Pete (Carroll): Please don't leave USc for Seattle

Dear Pete,

 

There is unsettling news in the air concerning your most likely departure of USC football for Seattle and the NFL.  I cannot begin to understand or know how to even see how this is possible.  Did we not give you everything in Southern Cal?  You were the most celebrated coach at USC in decades, most honored and renowned in NCAA sports and would be on anyone's top 10 list of "Most Amazing Football Coaches Ever" in the NFL and NCAA, USC fans have traveled everywhere to see your Trojans and to greet the team with support and smiles (my dad and I included), not to mention: was your 4 million USD/a year salary and living in Rolling Hills not enough to keep you here with USC?  Is being at USC so bad that you would jump ship so quickly, without even considering the impact your decisions will have on us--the fans, the future of USC football--the high school prospects who will most likely reconsider their commitment to the USC 2010 football program and opt for Notre Dame or worse, even UCLA?

 

As a long time Trojan, I was one before I even thought about college and as events would turn out down the road, I headed off to Carnegie Mellon instead of USC for my undergraduate years but my heart was never far from Trojan sports. 

 

 

In 2001, when you first arrived at USC, we were all ready for a change, hopeful you would be "the one" finally to lead us back to football glory so synonymous with USC Trojans.  We even trekked out to the Las Vegas Bowl with a handful of other fellow Trojans and cheered the team on despite the eventual dismal loss to the Utah Utes. 

 

And from then on, the dynasty at USC really took off.  Your energy on and off the field and your kindness towards fans like us made us feel like family, I have many pictures from our visits to the SC campus where you always made time for a photo opt with the little Chinese girl and her Dad.  I still remember the first time we spoke and you told me you knew of Carnegie Mellon, when I mentioned I went to school there, and had driven past many years ago...I texted my best friend at the time about meeting you and having a picture taken and he nearly dropped his phone!  

 

Thanks to you, I met Reggie Bush and Lendale White, Patrick Turner, John David Booty and many others, all who were very pleasant, well-mannered and down to earth football superstars.  Your guidance and your approach to the game left a lasting impression on each of these players and their families, something even another talented Coach on paper may never be able to. 

 

 My dad and I came to practices on campus, scrimmages at the Coliseum, together, we've traveled to Miami, Hawaii, Ohio State, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Berkeley, Arizona and Virginia---not to mention the numerous trips to the Coliseum for the much anticipated home games.  We are not the only ones, we have met others who travel to every away game and dedicate football season as USC travels season. 

My friends know once September comes around each year, there is no Saturday day or night life if USC is playing.  When USC games were not broadcasted here in the east coast, I'd follow my Trojans on ESPN Gamecast on my computer from my dorm room at CMU.  Post-college, I would trek out to the Crystal City Sports Bar in Crystal City, VA to watch with fellow USC fans.  At times, I would even venture off to sports bars at night (despite my Dad's concerns) closer to home and sit for hours watching solo, often times being the only USC fan in the place as others got drunk while watching UFC and other games.  I've followed your groomed Trojans into the NFL and track each one at each team religiously.  My boyfriend who thought he loved the NFL/Football thinks I'm crazy and isn't sure still how I am the biggest fan he knows who didn't even go to USC. 

 

And by the way, I am not sure why you would leave us now, despite the mediocre season last year, it was still a winning record, we still went to a bowl game and won.  Are you leaving us because of the NCAA allegations?  Why not stay and fight this through together?  We are family aren't we?  At least I thought we were.  I've always believed in you and have never thought that you were involved in any of these allegations about misconduct within the USC football program.  Stay and prove everyone else who isn't a believer--wrong. 

 

 

Oh and what happens to "A Better LA"?  I thought you were committed not just to Southern Cal, but to Southern California--to LA.  I've watched 60 Minutes and other programs featuring your philanthropic efforts and showing that "other side" of Pete Carroll.  You were dedicated, you had an impact, your energy and positive personality resonated in these kids.  Guess you'll be starting "A Better Seattle" and just leaving us?

PS#2: Seattle has nothing on LA...weather, culture, and football...the Seahawks are no USC.

PS#3: You've made UCLA very happy at the moment, and all those UT Longhorns, and SEC haters.  With Urban Meyer and Tebow gone, I really thought you'd look at 2010 as the offseason to regroup, train, bring on a different Offensive Coordinator, and make 2010 football season the best ever and lead us back to National Championship status!

An Ohio State fan is trash talking a little USC kid during this march towards the stadium...I kid you not, I thought this 30+ Ohio State woman was going to smack the kid for holding the Trojan victory sign and wearing USC gear on her territory

 

We made friends though at the USC Ohio State game...some others not featured in pics, but we left with a victory and a sigh of relief for surviving this experience!

 

The Coliseum is our home, and we always thought it would be yours too...

I always thought it was "Win Forever...with USC" but I guess not.

Well, wherever I was: USC was not far behind...

And while I am sad to see you go (if you do), USC Football was a legacy even before you, but with you we had hoped to make that a permanent imprint on doubters (especially here in the east coast and SEC)

2008 was filled with wonderful memories, NY trips, yummy food, good USC football season (not great but also not like 2009 LOL), relaxing days in Charleston, SC and lots of Maryland blue crab consumption!

FAO Schwartz in Manhattan: i've always loved this store since seeing the Tom Hanks movie "BIG", gosh that was so long ago!!

I HEART Central Park (in good weather) the view is gorgeous all around and you can get lost here and almost forget you're in a bustling city...but then end up right near Madison Avenue and be right back into shopping central hehe

 

 

 

Sushi of Gari: very modern japanese cuisine, still amazing fish and we were happy we tried it but perhaps it's too "nobu" like for us?

Out in the boonies of Virginia, south of our nation's capital, hidden off some beaten path, what do we find?

besides desolation and an endless path of railway tracks?

Tim's Rivershore Crabs!: SUPER YUMMY and one of the best places for Maryland blue crabs we've found after trying multiple places in Annapolis, Baltimore and Virginia!  Definitely come ready to make a mess and I would leave the Chanel behind ;)

Hershey Hotel in Pennsylvania: and no, I don't think you could smell chocolate in the air like we had heard from various sources...

Lacroix @ the Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia: Brunch Buffet DELICIOUS, one of the best we've had and PZ can tell you that if there is a noteworthy brunch buffet in town, we'll be there! (very reasonably priced too compared to the Ritz and Fairmont ones in D.C.!)
